The Fairbanks School of Public Health welcomes Ann Johnston, EdD, MHA, FACHE, as the incoming Director of our Master of Health Administration program. We are very pleased that outgoing Director Paul Lang will be working with Dr. Johnston during the upcoming year, ensuring a smooth transition in leadership for this important program.
Nir Menachemi, PhD, Chair of the Health Policy and Management department, is delighted that Dr. Johnston will be joining the HPM team. “Speaking with many Indiana hospital leaders during last year’s listening tour reinforced our belief that an MHA program is only as good as the quality and breadth of connections it has to the practice community it serves. When we launched our national search for a new MHA director we were looking for someone with strong practice and academic credentials. Dr. Johnston represents everything we were looking for in a new MHA director. She will be a great mentor to our students given her strong practice credentials as a proven health care executive; she has boundless energy and excellent networking skills; and she has a rich understanding of the inner workings of a top MHA program. She will help us make our excellent program even better.”
Prior to accepting the position at FSPH, Dr. Johnston worked at the Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU)/Medical College of Virginia (MCV) in Richmond, Virginia, where she has served as the Director of Professional Development and Continuing Education since 2011. Her prior positions include:
- Vice President of High Point Regional Health System in High Point, North Carolina
- Chief Operating Officer/Vice President Operations at Columbus Regional Healthcare System in Whiteville, North Carolina
- Self-employment as a Consultant providing expertise in strategic planning and new business development for healthcare systems
- Chief Operating Officer of HCA Lanier Park Hospital in Gainesville, Georgia
Dr. Johnston received both her Doctor of Education degree and her Master of Health Administration degree from Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond, Virginia. She earned a Bachelor of Arts with Distinction from the University of Virginia in Charlottesville, Virginia.
